<image:caption>Hi, I’m Courtney Burkhart, and I’m thrilled to be joining the Kids Unlimited team! I’m originally from Indiana, but moved to Florida where I earned my undergraduate degree in Sociology from Rollins College in 2019. After that, I returned to the Midwest to pursue my Master’s in Social Work at the University of Chicago, graduating in 2021. My professional journey began at Youth Outreach Services, where I worked in the juvenile justice sector. Most recently, I spent the last two and a half years at Merlin Day Academy, a therapeutic school that specializes in supporting neurodiverse learners. These experiences have deepened my passion for working with children and families and strengthened my belief in the importance of individualized, compassionate care. I’m excited to bring my background in social work to Kids Unlimited and support children in understanding the “why” behind their emotions, developing strong social skills, setting healthy boundaries, and learning effective coping strategies as well as collaborating with caregivers. Social work plays a vital role in helping children grow, thrive, and navigate life’s challenges—and I’m honored to be a part of that journey.</image:caption>

<image:caption>TL is an auditory intervention that uses the organized sound patterns inherent in music to impact all levels of the nervous system. Auditory information from specially modulated Therapeutic Listening music provides direct input to both the vestibular and the auditory portions of the central nervous system. TL can improve sensory modulation, attention, behavior, postural organization, speech and language. A TL program can be set up to be used at home, school as well as during therapy. Therapeutic Listening- Quickshifts (TL-Q), are a shortened version of Therapeutic Listening Gearshifters that modifies music with binaural beat technology. “Whether being used in the clinic, school, home, or community setting, Quickshifts have shown to support immediate and lasting changes in a variety of occupational performance areas such as: self-regulation, sensory modulation, anxiety, postural activation, motor coordination, social interaction, and executive functioning.” (Vital Links) These musical selections are flexible, last 15-23 minutes and can be used in a variety of settings or part of a sensory diet.
